MESA (Mathematics engineering science achievement) is an elective run by Mrs. White.    MESA clubs all over New Mexico have a theme of food this year. This means the different projects and field trips are based around food. MESA had its second field trip of the year, and for this field trip, the class went to Roadrunner Food Bank and volunteered for two hours. Roadrunner food bank works to serve the hungry in New Mexico since 1980. The food bank started with a man named Reverend Scholl handing out food from the back of his truck. Roadrunner is the largest Food Bank in the state, they distribute more than 30 million pounds of food per year. MESA first had lunch and a tour at Sweet Tomatoes, which is a restaurant nearby nex+Gen afterwards. At Roadrunner, there were two groups, one packing and organizing cans and the other group packing liquids. Group one, who were sorting the cans, sorted five pallets which each contained 1,000 pounds of food. The other group which were packing liquids, finished four pallets containing 500 pounds each. All together MESA packed about 7,500 pounds of food. Afterwards, they were plenty hungry for Sweet Tomatoes’ delicious menu items.
