Getting to Know Dr. Neuber

Welcome, Dr. Neuber!

By Patrick Archibald

For our first Get to Know of the year, we are meeting Dr. Neuber.  She teaches four sophomore chemistry classes and the first-period Finance 1010 class. Here is what we talked about:

How long have you been teaching?

“I have taught middle and high school level classes for six years. Before that, I taught college.”

What school did you come from? What did you teach there?

“I taught at two schools before nex+Gen: The International School at Mesa del Sol and Saint Charles Middle School. I taught seventh through eleventh-grade science, which consisted of middle school science, environmental science, biology, and chemistry.”

What is your favorite thing about nex+Gen so far?

“I like the people, just everyone, in general, is friendly, helpful and respectful. I also really love how important culture is here.”

What made you want to come to nex+Gen?

“I like the PBL (Project Based Learning) style of teaching and also how the whole school is focused on one approach to learning.”

What are you excited about for this coming year?

“We are going to be doing a project in chemistry where we make biodegradable plastics. I am very excited to start that.”

What do you like to do for fun?

“Some of my favorite things to do are walking my dogs, going on hikes. Sometimes I hike with a group I’m apart of called the Sierra club but sometimes I just like to hike on my own. I also love to ski and I am currently learning how to play the electric bass.”

Do you have any pets or children?

“I have two dogs, Gunther and Cookie. I also have two children, an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old; both are boys.”

What is your favorite music genre? Least favorite?

“I love most kinds of music but my favorite is classic rock. My least favorites are any kind of electric/dubstep type of music or rap.”

What is your favorite movie?

“I have so many favorite movies but my top movie is Apollo 13 because I can show it in class and it stays accurate to history.”

What is your favorite color?

“My favorite color is turquoise.”

Is there anything else you want students, parents or fellow facilitators to know about you?

“I have a Ph.D. in environmental health and policy. Before teaching, I was an environmental consultant at multiple different companies for 20 years. I got bored when my kids grew up so I started teaching at the local community college which, at the time, was in New Jersey. I taught Earth Science and Biology. I had lots of fun teaching there and I wanted to do it more, so I did! My main motto is, ‘It is perfectly acceptable to have fun while you are learning as long as you are learning’”.

Welcome to nex+Gen, Dr. Neuber, we are glad to have you with us!
