This November 9th, 2,000+ local students attended the Discovery Fest held by Big Brothers Big Sisters annually at the Albuquerque Convention Center downtown. At the K-12 event, there were booths with professionals in every career from the scientists behind cosmetics to people who work on space shuttles. The Discovery Festival is an interactive STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) event that shows kids the options and paths of success for jobs in STEAM fields.

There were about 40 nex+Gen students chosen by Ms. Floyd, Ms. White, and Ms. Irby to attend the festival and each will have to do a follow-up project. Project options were to write an article for yours truly, the Griffin Times, create your own PBL project, or to plan and showcase your own booth at nex+Gen’s very own STEM Fest on March 5th. Stay tuned for all the awesome projects coming soon and remember to mark your calendars for our STEM Fest this spring!
